More than 550 million Americans are currently homeless. Just stop and think about that for a minute. Nearly two out of every thousand. Of course, if you live in New York or Los Angeles or Seattle or any other major metro area, you just have to look up; there are homeless all around you… under bridges, inside tents, over grates, living in boxes.

Every day we are running a sprint. Moving as fast as we can to achieve the goals established for ourselves and our companies. Leadership says we need to get more quality leads, increase sales or launch a new product. Then we are off and running to accomplish this as fast as possible with the least amount of resources possible.

“I’m prepared to go forward with it.” - Rod Ponton, lawyer (not a cat) This week, Texas lawyer Rod Ponton went viral for his struggles with a cat filter during a virtual hearing held via Zoom. This lighthearted video offered a good laugh and a sense of relatability.

“What about trying the new wing place?” A conversation with my neighbor over where to order dinner started like that. “What new wing place?” I answered. I tend to zero in on new restaurants, and that one had escaped me.

We are in the midst of a sea change the likes of which the world has not seen since the 1960s. It is a massive movement with the potential to make unprecedented change around the globe and beyond.   The movement has no name, at least not yet.

As 2020 comes to a close, I think a majority of people would agree it won’t be hard to say goodbye when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. But with every experience good or bad, there are lessons to be learned and this year had plenty of them.

Last month, I spotted a woolly bear caterpillar climbing up the side of my house. Beyond being fascinated by his lovely coat of fur and the undulating wave motion that produced his forward movement, I was mostly curious about what he was doing and where he was going.
