These days, it seems more and more difficult to not bring politics into things – including athletics, at the office, at home or on a date and of course – marketing. The big question is, should brands address topics such as immigration, gun violence, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights and climate change in their company values or better yet, take a stand and influence these topics in their advertising?
We’ve all seen it. The products packaged with messaging that claims what’s inside is natural, pure, eco - and free of this and that. Add a leaf or two, and a cool shade of green and you think you are picking up a product that is good for you, your home and your family.
Jim Taylor, Arby's CMO is pretty proud of himself these days, stating that consumers are either "with us (eating meat) or against us (not eating meat)" in a sort of battle between meat and vegetable eaters. But there are serious flaws in his strategy.
