Elvis is Dead; Long Live the King

720x405-151373577Ever wonder about the value of branding… about how much time and money to invest in creating and maintaining a brand?

Take a minute to think about Elvis on his 80th birthday.

According to Rolling Stone, Legacy Recordings have planned a yearlong celebration of Presley’s music for modern-day Elvis fans… a new website called ElvisTheMusic.com will go live… Graceland will  livestream an 80th birthday celebration…. Legacy Recordings will team with Spotify to reveal its own official music collection…

On top of all this, unconnected to the 80th birthday celebration but still Elvis-related, you can now bid on Presley’s private planes, the Lisa Marie and Hound Dog II.  While the planes are no longer suitable for flying, they preserve the original interiors from Presley’s time onboard.

Not bad for a celebrity who’s been gone for nearly 37 years.  I think Elvis would refer to it as TCB.  I would simply suggest that branding matters.
