10 Things Corsica Has Taught Me About Being an American.

CorsicaAs a follow-up to Jennifer’s recent post, I wanted to share my personal experience of traveling to Corsica and spending two amazing weeks on a tiny island floating on a beautiful blue sea centered on a rock hurdling through space (Crystal’s preferred description).

For those of you who don’t know, Corsica is a French island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is located west of the Italian Peninsula, southeast of the French mainland, and north of the Italian island of Sardinia. Mountains make up two-thirds of the island, forming a single chain.

Here are 10 things I learned during my stay…

  1. It really is possible to drink wine all day, every day. I always wondered; now I know.
  2. Mountains are much more fun to look at than drive or hike up.
  3. Living within walking distance of the Mediterranean Sea is like hitting the  super lotto at the age of 21.
  4. Only older women like to take off their tops on topless beaches.
  5. Corsicans have somehow managed to not pollute the Mediterranean Sea, where the water is crystal clear as far as the eye can see.
  6. There is no fast food and no obesity in Corsica. Coincidence?
  7. My daughter married an amazing young man, who is an amazing son, an amazing husband and an amazing father. Again, like hitting the super lotto.
  8. My son-in-law’s family – Francis and Colette – and the rest of their family (Melanie, Christian, Edit, Gilbert) are the most amazing and loving people I have met in years. We are so blessed and so grateful.
  9. My first and only granddaughter (so far) is the newest love of my life, and being with her in Corsica made it all the more special.
  10. The food in Corsica was so good that I have forsaken eating in the U.S., but I am still drinking a boatload of wine… don’t judge me, join me.
